Access and roles

Placeholder. The full guide, with the permissions grid and worked examples, will be generated from the product.

Access in Commonwick is organized around three ideas:

  • People are everyone who can sign in to your organization.
  • Roles are job descriptions: a role grants a specific set of permissions, and giving someone a role is how you decide what they can do.
  • Permissions are the individual capabilities a role is made of.

Every organization comes with four built-in roles — owner, secondary owner, admin, and member — and you can define your own on top of them. A secondary owner can do everything an owner can except delete the organization, hand it over, or appoint another secondary owner, and it is the only role that can be made owner. This section will walk through reading the roles grid, creating a custom role, and assigning roles to people.
